As with any fishing on the Alabama Gulf Coast, it can be challenging at times. The cool temperatures this Winter has pushed the Bull Redfish further offshore and away from land. Today was no exceptional charter, but we did manage to catch a couple of monster sized Bull Redfish. We left the Orange Beach Marina Dock Sunday morning about 8 a.m.. We headed through Moron Straits and out past the Alabama Point Bridge when we saw some birds working just outside the jetties and sea wall. We put the trollers out and were hoping to hook up on some early season Spanish Mackerel. We trolled through the bait balls a few times and did not have any luck. I guess it was just Pelicans and Seagulls diving in and having an easy feast on some Blood Minnows. We headed East at first and got into some 21 foot water, hoping to catch a nice Redfish in front of the Caribe Condo’s. To no avail, they were not biting. We slowly headed to the West and went as far as the Alabama State Park pavilion before we got our first Bull Redfish on the line. It was a beautiful 24 pounder. The early morning temperature were brisk but amazingly comfortable after the sun came up. We caught one more nice sized Bull Redfish before heading back in around noon. The weather is warming quickly and the fish are starting to show up better than they did when it was cold. We are looking forward to a really great Spring Break in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama this year.
