Captain Troy’s approach to charter fishing was shaped by more than learning where fish live.
His background includes service in the United States Navy, business and transportation management, commercial aviation, and more than two decades operating fishing charters.
Those experiences influence the way he thinks about preparation, maintenance, safety, communication, customer expectations, and responsibility for the decisions made offshore.
Fishing knowledge matters, but running a charter business also requires judgment, leadership, hospitality, maintenance, financial discipline, and the ability to explain offshore fishing to people who may have never been on the Gulf before.

Sam McClaren works directly with guests in the cockpit. He prepares rods, reels, bait, and tackle; coaches children and beginners; helps manage lines and fish; measures regulated fish; and cleans and bags legal fish the family chooses to keep.
Once the fishing begins, Sam is often the person standing beside guests helping them understand what to do while Captain Troy continues managing the boat and overall fishing plan.

A fishing boat operates in saltwater, heat, vibration, weather, and an environment that places constant demands on machinery and equipment.
Our approach is to inspect, maintain, repair, and replace equipment deliberately rather than treating maintenance as something that matters only after a failure occurs.
Safety includes vessel maintenance, weather judgment, navigation, passenger instructions, cockpit organization, proper fish and hook handling, and knowing when a trip should not be forced.
Captain Troy holds a United States Coast Guard 100-Ton Master credential. The boat carries required safety equipment along with additional equipment selected for offshore operation.
Safety does not mean pretending every risk can be removed from the Gulf. It means respecting those risks, preparing for them, and making responsible decisions.
