Wonderful Fishing Trip in Orange Beach Fishing wit

4/25/2012 - Hi Troy! We wanted to thank you and your crew again for such a wonderful trip! Your fishing charter was perfect for our family. The six hour trip was a good length of time to see a lot! We can't believe we saw dolphins so close, jellyfish and that shark! I definitely have a fishing story to tell now that I fought a shark while trying to catch a red snapper. My family felt safe and comfortable on your boat. The kids talked about you for the rest of the day. Andrew was so impressed with sitting in the captain's chair. You were so funny (singing to my kids) and such a joy it was hard to believe that 6 hrs had gone by. We were so happy to catch the Spanish Mackerel for dinner. We were constantly reeling in fish it was just amazing that your deckhand, Stephen, could keep up with baiting our lines! The Spanish Mackerel were so delicious to eat for dinner tonight! I only wish we could have shared with your crew since there was so much! Shipp's Harbor Grill was the nicest place we've had dinner at yet And they cooked up the fish just perfectly. Charter-Fishing-with-Light-Tackle-Wore-Us-Out

3/3/2012 - Hey Captain Troy, We just wanted to tell you thanks for a wonderful experience. Gerald and Coleman are still whining and complaining about how tired they were two days after that fishing trip you took us on. I guess those old men can't keep up with those grandkids like they ought too. JR took his bent hook to school the other day and showed everyone there, the pictures of the big Red Snapper he caught with it. He said even the principal was amazed at how such a big hook could get bent up like it did. Over the years, we have fished all over Orange Beach with at least a dozen different fishing charters and we have never had an experience quite like they one you gave us. You were right about that light tackle fishing. It wore everyone out. The old men thought you were talking about catching fish the size of Crappie when I booked with you. If you remember, I told you that we could catch small fish to eat up here and that's why we wanted the longer 6 hour trip doing catch and release. After fighting so many big fish, they were whipped. Those grandboys did fine and have talked about the trip every day now. I am glad we were able to get down there to see our grand boys and daughter take them deep sea fishing. I laughed at Gerald (now I call him Geritol, cause he needed it)and Coleman and told them that those fish were right behind the boat and ya'll didn't have to reel them far. Coleman said, but the drag was reel loose and it made a run. We would like to thank you for showing us a great time and wearing the old men out. Blind Man's Unforgetable Experience

10/24/2011 - This was my family's first time fishing on the Gulf and what an adventure! The crew, the boat, and of course the fishing was nothing short of awesome! Troy and his first mate Stephen make you feel right at home as if you had been fishing the Gulf for years. They both took the time to explain where we were going, why, and all of the safety information. Captain Troy is clearly knowledgable about the area, and it showed as he expertly guided us to an area where the fish were biting. Are you guaranteed to catch fish every time, no, but on October 20th, we were lucky enough to catch a bunch. Even though it was a chartered boat, you really feel like you are on your own boat, and the crew was more than accomodating. I am completely blind and I was suprised to see Troy and Stephen take the extra time to explain things to me in greater detail, right down to the boats and scenery we were passing. It was truly an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in fishing the Gulf. It is not often when you book a trip where you feel so involved with the crew. In Troy and Steven's case, they made us feel like members of the family that had been fishing with them for years. All Charter Boats are not the same in Orange Beach

We waited too late this year to book with you and I chose another charter boat because they said they were "family friendly" too! It only took a few minutes into the trip before I realized I made a huge mistake. The crew was polite, but definitely not at all "family friendly" like they advertised. I thought all charter boats in Orange Beach were the same. I was wrong. After fishing with you, I thought everyone did things the same way you did. Great Fun! Constant Action!

9/17/2008 - During the lull between hurricanes Gustav and Ike, we were lucky enough to get out in the Gulf onboard Distraction charters. From the time you leave the dock you’ll quickly appreciate the professionalism and easygoing attitude of both Captain Troy. Both of them work incredibly hard to make the fishing experience enjoyable, and I have to say my family and I had a blast! While trolling we landed everything from cobia to king mackerel to tuna, and we stayed busy landing fish the majority of the time we were out. When all was said and done, we had reeled in between 30 and 40 fish in a four hour span, and all of use were exhausted from the fights the Gulf fish put up. First Time

8/5/2008 - What a great trip we had. The first time for the entire family to charter a boat for an offshore fishing trip. I have been chartering trips for many years and was fortunate to be able to get my wife and 3 kids to go with me this time. We all had a blast and it was great to see the 3 kids with a rod and real in hand fighting a big fish. True Professionals

7/8/2008 - The Distraction Crew arrived promptly on schedule. After a short briefing by Captain Troy, who insisted I call him Troy not Sir, we were on our way. We chartered a six hour trip for four of us that included a quick 50 minute ride to the fishing grounds then sonar fish-finder guided "hot-spots" that literally hit every time our bait dropped. The first mate was very patient as I was a first timer and a novice at best. He is very fast at all tasks so you can enjoy your Deep Sea fishing. Troy practically grew up on the water and really knows how to fish and set tackle. I was also able to catch a quick nap in the ac cooled salon while the other guys fished after getting up a 5:00am! Capt Troy is sociable and a true professional that guided us to numerous "hot-spots" through out the morning. The highlight of the trip was Mackerel trolling. The first mate Lem set it all up and all we had to do was haul'em in. The Distraction charter is a family oriented outfit with a friendly crew and Captain that I highly recommend. First Class Trip!

4/28/2008 - Capt. Troy, I wanted to give my many thanks for the service you provided us with this past weekend. The hospitality the both you showed was nothing short of first class! You guys made sure that we knew this was our charter by giving us several different options and leaving it up to us to decide. Everything that we discussed and decided to do actually worked out greater than I would have ever imagined. I would have never guessed those fish would have pulled so hard, and going after them with light tackle made it that more real. When we pulled up to the very first spot, I had no idea what was about to happen… within the first 30 seconds of our lines being in the water we were all “hooked-up” and feeling the tug of some incredible Red Snapper! The sound of you laughing and saying “1-2-3-4” as each one of us set the hook on one of those red darts is a sound that I will not soon forget. The scene was remarkable as the water became filled with what looked fire, as the snapper raced to the surface to investigate our baits. I can’t remember a single time where the bait fell all the way to the bottom without getting pelted by one of those hearty fish. And I just thought the snapper were tough… well, that was until you showed us how to go about catching those Amberjacks! “Wow, these things have got some fight in ‘em”, I said to my crew as I got a taste of one of those rebellious Amberjacks! The best part of all, we each got to catch several on our 6 hour trip and we are the ones who actually did the fishing for them... from pitching the bait to setting the hook, it was simply amazing! The guys and I had a smile on our face from the time we first shook hands to the time we parted ways. Great Trip

7/18/2007 - Troy, Thanks for a GREAT trip! Your website emphasized family atmosphere and that's why I booked with you. I was looking for a nice clean boat with a crew I could trust my family with. The fishing was actually third on my criteria list. The trip was everything your website said it would be, and more. The boat is nice, the air-conditioner cool, and you guys were great. We really felt "at home" on your boat. The fishing was also everything we had hoped for. I really appreciate all the work you put into keeping us on fish. Our two teenage boys were were so tired, they slept all the way back to the dock and were sore the next day. Having the restaurant cook our catch was a perfect ending to a wonderful day. Distraction

5/1/2007 - Capt. Troy, I would like to let you know how much we enjoyed the recent trip we took on your fine craft, DISTRACTION. The boat is apply named and we left all of our worries and cares on the dock right at departure. We were so relaxed that I did not think about anything but having a good time long after we left the boat. Now that is mental momentum and you set the pace for the entire weekend. I spend a lot of time in the gulf and have dealt with many charter boats in my time and you have topped them all! Your approach to the day was a breath of fresh air and I knew from the start we were in for a treat. Most charter boats and captains have very strict rules of conduct and typically start the trip with a blast of dos and don’ts but you laid the rules down with one primary goal in mind. To have a good time and relax on the open water seemed to be the order of the day and that is just what we all did. Just seeing the sign on helm, “guest welcome” let me know that your attitude was much different than what I have been accustomed to. We all were immediately relaxed and felt right at home with your craft and your attitude towards the purpose of the outing. It was like you and Lem were a part of the group and not just working for a buck. It is very apparent that you and Lem enjoy what you are doing and I hope that you will let us on board for all of our future excursions. Redefining Customer Service

4/23/2007 - Good Morning and Happy Easter, Capt. Troy! I wanted to take a minute to drop you a line to tell you how pleased we were with our charter. From our initial meeting the night before the trip to our final handshake on the dock when you left, we were treated with courtesy and respect, and we never doubted for a moment that you were there to help us have an enjoyable day on the water. I've been fishing the Gulf of Mexico since I was 9 years old, and have never been treated better by a captain or a deck hand. The friendly atmosphere was almost too good to believe after some of the boats I've fished on. I was with a group of friends, all of whom are experienced fishermen, but chartering the Distraction is something that I could, and will, definitely recommend to first-time fishermen or to folks who just want to take their family out for a day on the water. This is one vessel/crew that I wouldn't be embarassed to have my wife or daughter on, because I could see the professionalism and courtesy in everything we did all day. I've always believed that the quality of a fishing trip is measured by the fun you have, not by the number of dead fish on the dock. Despite the choppy water on Saturday, we had fun, and still had a very respectable number of fish. In short, we were all happy with our experience, and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. 4/2/2007 - Dear Captain Troy, Thank you for the great trip with my family on April 2nd, 2007. We all had a terrific time. I appreciate your honesty on "the bite" and the weather. I have fished with captains in the past more interested in their fare than satisfied customers. Your boat was clean and rode smooth through the seas. Both you and your mate were cordial and entertaining. It is refreshing to have that kind of service as I have fished with "screamers" in the past that have deflated an otherwise fun day. We were pleasantly surprised to have filled your fish hold and arrive to the dock with several hundred pounds of fish. Not to mention the hundreds of pounds of snapper released. My highlights of the day were the drop the six of us made and each brought up double snapper upwards of ten pounds each, and the end of the day gag grouper my sixteen year old son caught.
